A true classic! Martyrs is one of the most disturbing, brutal and unpredictable horror movies ever. The actors, the story, the atmosphere and the scary sequences are really good. The tension is built up very fast but slows down in the last 20 minutes of the movie where it gets kinda boring and hard to watch. Nevertheless if you leave out the last 20 minutes of the movie it's one of the best horror movies ever and highly recommended to watch!

In 1971, the little Lucie (Mylène Jampanoï) was found near an industrial area by the police after being held in a room by unidentified people for several years. She is too disturbed to be able to give the police precise information and only talks to her friend Anna (Morjana Alaoui) with whom she grows up in an orphanage. 15 years later, Lucie thinks she recognized her kidnappers in a newspaper report. She searches for the family home and finds what she is looking for. Armed with a shotgun, she shoots the family of four. At first, she just wanted to observe the house to make sure it was the right family. Looking back, she remembers the mother (Patricia Tulasne) of this family, who had held her in the industrial area and beat her. After her act, she calls her best friend Anna to come over. When she is in front of the house, the injured Lucie runs into her arms, which is plagued by hallucinations and is attacked there by a terrible female figure (Isabelle Chasse). Anna is about to bury the bodies in a hole in the ground when she suddenly realizes that the mother of the family is still alive and tries to help her. Lucie notices this and hits the woman with a hammer. shortly afterward Lucie cuts her throat because she could not handle her hallucinations. The next day Anna finds a secret passage in the house that leads into an underground cellar prison. There she finds a severely malnourished woman (Emilie Miskdjian) like Lucie once and takes care of her. The next day the woman tries to kill herself but is shot beforehand by another woman with an armed group that has stormed into the house. They took Anna to the cellar prison where she is now struggling to survive
